Adventure foals Dalakhani colt, to visit Sea The Stars

Adventure's colt by Dalakhani at the Irish National StudRunnymede’s exceptional broodmare Adventure, whose second foal is Irish Group 2 winner and Group 1-placed filly Laughing Lashes, foaled a colt by 2003 European Horse of the Year Dalakhani on February 22 while boarded at the Irish National Stud.

Handsome and correct with a striking stripe and snip, the colt is an outstanding foal.

“The photos I have seen of this colt clearly validate the rave reviews he is getting from the Irish National Stud,” said Runnymede General Manager Martin O’Dowd.

While the colt is thriving, Adventure is being prepared for breeding to one of the most exciting racehorses of the modern era, Sea The Stars, who is standing his second season at the Aga Khan’s Gilltown Stud in Kilcullen, County Kildare.

Winner of the Two Thousand Guineas (G1), Epsom Derby (G1), Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe (G1) and three other Group 1 races while reigning as the world’s highest rated runner of 2009, Sea The Stars has covered some of the best mares on the planet. His first book included 2008 European Horse of the Year and fellow Arc winner Zarkava, who foaled a colt on February 12, and two-time Japanese Horse of the Year and all-time leading female earner Vodka, who bankrolled $13.1-million.

“As breeders who emphasize genetic and physical compatibility when arranging matings for our mares, we are overjoyed as we anticipate what this mating between Adventure and Sea The Stars will yield,” O’Dowd said. “I have visited Sea The Stars on two occasions since his retirement from racing and I rate him as perhaps the best conformed horse currently standing at stud anywhere. Since he also has arguably the best pedigree to be found in any stud book, he is true equine royalty.”

By Cape Cross, Sea The Stars is a half brother to leading sire and dual classic winner Galileo and to two other Grade/Group 1 winners. His dam, Urban Sea, also won the Arc and is a half sister to classic winner and leading international sire King’s Best.

Adventure, a ten-year-old gray daughter of Unbridled’s Song, soon will be featured on the home page of Runnymede’s redesigned website. A half sister to Group 1 winner Palace Episode and out of a half sister to Kentucky Derby (G1) runner-up Tejano Run, Adventure is from the prolific family of Runnymede foundation mare Kazadancoa, who produced three graded stakes winners.

Twice a winner at three, Adventure has produced two other foals for Runnymede in addition to the Dalakhani colt and Laughing Lashes, who is being prepared for this year’s Irish filly classic races by trainer Jessica Harrington.

Adventure’s yearling of 2010, an elegant bay filly by First Samurai, drew a bid of $450,000 from Oliver St. Lawrence on behalf of Bahraini owner Fawzi Nass at the Keeneland September sale and will be conditioned by ten-time champion British trainer Henry Cecil.

Captain Ellis, Adventure’s first foal, is a winner in England.
