A pair of Runnymede stakes winners will be in action over the Labor Day holiday weekend, with English-based Archbishop taking on international competition in the Topkapi Trophy (G2) at Veliefendi Racecourse in Istanbul, Turkey, on September 2 and Bizzy Caroline poised for the Glens Falls Stakes (G3) at Saratoga Race Course the next day.
Both horses race in the green and black silks of Runnymede Chairman Catesby W. Clay.
Archbishop is coming off the biggest win of his brief career, a dead-heat triumph in the Thoroughbred Stakes (G3) at Goodwood Racecourse. 
Frankie Dettori, who guided the son of Arch to that success, will be back aboard in the Topkapi Trophy, the highlight of Turkey’s International Racing Festival run over 1600 meters (approximately one mile) on turf for a purse of €459,000 (about $577,250).
Trainer Brian Meehan and Runnymede General Manager Martin O’Dowd both have traveled to Turkey for the race. O’Dowd reported that Archbishop was very keen when he went out for some light exercise over the Veliefendi turf on September 1.
“Archbishop has been working very well since Goodwood and carries plenty of stable confidence,” Meehan commented via his website.
The Topkapi Trophy, named for the palace of the Ottoman emperors which overlooks the Bosphorus in Istanbul, has drawn a strong field of 11. Some of the other key contenders include Master of Hounds, a Group 1 winner in Dubai this year but unraced since March; English Group 2 winner Red Duke, who finished behind Archbishop in the Thoroughbred Stakes; German Group 3 winner Pakal; German stakes winner Indomito, who finished third in last year’s Topkapi Trophy, and English stakes winner Van Ellis.
A three-year-old, Archbishop will be running against five older horses as well as five others of his own generation. He has won twice and placed twice in five career starts.
Meanwhile, Bizzy Caroline enters the Glens Falls after a third-place effort in the Waya Stakes at Saratoga on August 6. Among her rivals will be Waya winner Kissable, who is an early 9-5 choice, and multiple graded winner Hit It Rich, who is the 7-5 favorite.
The Glens Falls is a 1 3/8-mile test on the turf.
Jose Lezcano will ride Bizzy Caroline for the second time after being aboard in the Waya. A four-year-old daughter of Afleet Alex, Bizzy Caroline has won four of 14 starts and placed five times while earning $310,724.
