With an exceptional performance in the Tokyo Shimbun Hai (G3) at Tokyo Racecourse on February 6, King Street stamped himself as the newest millionaire bred by Runnymede Farm.
A five-year-old by 2010 leading Japanese sire King Kamehameha, King Street earned $196,635 while finishing second by a nose in the scintillating time of 1:32.50 for the 1,600 meters (about one mile) on a firm turf course. His earnings now stand at $1,171,778.
Produced by the Red Ransom mare Dawn Ransom, King Street was the first foal sold at the 2006 Japan Racing Horse Association select sale from the initial crop by King Kamehameha, bringing a bid of $324,046 from Lexington Farm. He races for Takeo Hyakuman and is trained by Yasuo Ikee, who conditioned Japanese Triple Crown winner and two-time Horse of the Year Deep Impact.
A winner at two, King Street has been competitive every season and has raced in 15 consecutive races considered stakes in Japan. He has compiled a record of five wins and four placings in 20 career starts.
Dawn Ransom, a daughter of the Group 3-winning Damascus mare Eastern Dawn and from the direct female line of champion Quill, produced her last foal in 2007 prior to contracting laminitis. That foal, a filly, is named Meine Akatsuki.
