Runnymede Fillies in Salty Valley View

Two stars from Runnymede’s outstanding 2008 foal crop, Grade 1-placed stakes winner Pinch Pie and Grade 3 winner Bizzy Caroline, will join a full field of a dozen talented fillies contesting the $150,000 Pin Oak Valley View Stakes (G3) at Keeneland on October 21.
Nearly every entrant in the race has earned some kind of stakes credentials, so the 1 1/16-mile turf contest promises to be an extremely competitive event.
Bizzy Caroline, who races for Runnymede Chairman Catesby W. Clay, will be making her first start since August 20, when she got off slowly in the Del Mar Oaks (G1) and could not gain ground. Prior to that, the daughter of Afleet Alex missed winning the American Oaks (G1) at Hollywood Park by only a half-length following her win in the 1 1/8-mile Regret Stakes (G3) at Churchill Downs.
The versatile Pinch Pie won the 1 1/16-mile Desert Vixen Stakes on the Monmouth Park turf in July and then finished third in the prestigious Alabama Stakes (G1) on the main track at Saratoga Race Course. In her most recent start, she encountered traffic in the stretch but wound up only 2 ¾ lengths behind winner Winter Memories in the Garden City Stakes (G1) on turf at Belmont Park.
Others in the field include Fair Grounds Oaks (G2) winner Daisy Devine, an earner of nearly $400,000; Darley Stable’s $1-million yearling purchase In Step, a daughter of Unbridled’s Song who is a half sister to champion and sire Vindication and who won the seven-furlong Queen Tutta Stakes on the Belmont grass in her most recent start, and Grade 3 winners Dynamic Holiday, New Normal and Smart Sting.
Bizzy Caroline, who is trained by Ken McPeek, has drawn the four post with jockey Manny Cruz.
Pinch Pie, who is campaigned by Michael Dubb, Bethlehem Stables and Stuart Grant, is set to start from the far outside with Robby Albarado aboard. Trainer Tony Dutrow purchased the daughter of Victory Gallop for $65,000 from Runnymede’s consignment to the 2009 Keeneland September yearling sale.
