Runnymede Trio Brings Over $1 Million

The first three horses Runnymede led to the 2013 Keeneland September sale ring were sold for a total surpassing $1 million during Book 1 of the world’s largest yearling auction from September 9-12.
An athletic chestnut colt by Street Cry, the first foal out of multiple Grade 1-placed stakes winner Beautician, by Dehere, proved very popular with buyers in the fourth and concluding Book 1 session, drawing a final bid of $750,000 from Charlotte Weber’s Live Oak Plantation.       The Street Cry colt, sold as Hip 700, was bred by Runnymede’s longtime friend and client, Peter Callahan, in partnership with Darley.
Earlier, during the first session, a robust dark bay colt by More Than Ready out of Josette, by Danehill, sold for $225,000 to Niall Brennan, agent for financier Marc Keller. Bred by Runnymede in partnership with Callahan, the colt entered the ring as Hip 119.
Runnymede also sold a dark bay colt from the first crop of Eskendereya and out of our Kingmambo mare Alcina for $95,000 to Cromwell Bloodstock, agent for trainer Wesley Ward. The colt was bred by Runnymede in partnership with farm Chairman Catesby W. Clay and James E. Clay and was listed as Hip 650.
Ward has enjoyed success with Runnymede graduates; in June, he sent out juvenile filly Sweet Emma Rose to finish a sparkling second in the Queen Mary Stakes (G2) at Royal Ascot. Sweet Emma Rose, bred by Callahan, was sold to Cromwell for $40,000 from the Runnymede consignment to the 2012 Keeneland September sale.
In 2011, Cromwell acquired Runnymede-bred and raised Undrafted, a son of Purim out of French Jeannette, for $50,000 at the September sale, and the chestnut gelding has gone on to be a multiple graded stakes-placed winner of three races with ownership including National Football League star Wes Welker.
Runnymede has consigned 15 additional yearlings to this year’s September sale, with the next group set to enter the ring on September 14. Please visit our sale page for catalog information and photographs of our yearlings.
