Silver Sycamore towers over Irish field

In a dominating performance, Runnymede-bred Silver Sycamore leaped to an early lead and never looked back, cruising to victory over a classy field in a seven-furlong maiden race for juvenile fillies at Leopardstown in Ireland on September 3.
Silver Sycamore crossed the finish line in 1:27.27 for the seven furlongs on a course rated good, holding a three-length margin over runner-up Oh So Lucy, one of three daughters of international leading sire Galileo in the field of 11. Silver Sycamore, shown while in training in Florida (Michele MacDonald photo)Coolmore’s Aloof, by Galileo out of Group 1 winner Airwave, finished another half-length back in third.
“We’re delighted with that,” said Emma Galway, the daughter of, and assistant to, Silver Sycamore’s trainer Jessica Harrington.
“She came out of her last run much stronger,” Galway added, explaining that Silver Sycamore was victimized by a slow pace when fourth by a length on August 11 in a similar race at Leopardstown. “We should have made more use of her (speed) the last day and we learned a lot from the run.”
Runnymede Chairman Catesby W. Clay campaigns Silver Sycamore in partnership with Chris Zinkhan, chief executive officer of The Forestland Group, an independent timberland investment management organization based in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. Silver Sycamore is the first racehorse to run for Zinkhan.
By Exchange Rate, the gray filly is the first foal out of Runnymede’s promising broodmare Miss Forest City, a daughter of Coronado’s Quest and Grade 1-placed Smooth Charmer, by Easy Goer. This rich female family includes Kentucky Derby (G1) winner Super Saver; influential sire Mutakkdim, who recently gained his 100th stakes winner; champion and sire Rhythm, and Grade 1 winner Frost Giant.
Runnymede has consigned an outstanding colt by dual classic winner Big Brown out of Miss Forest City to the Keeneland September yearling sale. Included in Book 1, the dark bay colt is Hip 196.
